icepixie: ([B5] Delenn Susan hug)
Finally, I'm getting around to finishing some B5 fics I've been meaning to complete for more than a year!

I'll admit, in large part this was written to address a particular quote from "Into the Fire" that's always annoyed me. You'll know it when you see it. :)

Title: Epithalamion
Rating: G
Word Count: 1200
Characters and Pairings: Susan & Delenn friendship, Susan/Michael
Timeline: December 2263
Summary: On the day of Susan's wedding, she and Delenn have a chat.

One of the many things I like about this pairing is that some of the gender expectations are swapped: Susan is often the more practical one, while Michael, though he keeps it under wraps, is more traditionally romantic/sentimental (c.f. Dodger in "GROPOS"). This is the first fic in my AU from Michael's POV, something I've been wanting to do for a while, and it was fun to play with that here.

Title: With Paper Wings
Rating: G
Word Count: 1,900
Timeline: Spring 2263
Summary: Michael and Susan are pressed into babysitting duty and as a result, while ostensibly talking about the past and present, wind up having a conversation about the future. Fluff. (Though of course with them, there's always angst lurking in the corners...)

You realize this looks remarkably like a dog playing fetch with a tennis ball, right? )
icepixie: ([B5] Ivanova and Garibaldi post-brawl)
Or, In Which I Fangirl James Joyce Kind Of A Lot.

Title: "Iter Durum"
Author: [personal profile] icepixie
Rating: PG
Word Count: 1850
Timeline: 2269 (Handy-dandy timeline/master list)
Summary: November is hard for Susan Ivanova, and Michael has learned to give her space on this particular anniversary. It might go on like this forever, but the universe has other plans.

Every year she hopes it will hurt less, and every year it does, but the pain diminishes with the approximate speed of a bird emptying a beach by carrying away the grains of sand one by one in its tiny beak. )
icepixie: ([B5] Ivanova Garibaldi this moment)
While this has nothing to do with [community profile] mundane_bingo, I think the very existence of such a challenge was what spurred me to complete it. Mundanity ahoy!

Title: "We'll Crack the Darkest Sky Wide Open"
Author: [personal profile] icepixie
Rating: G
Pairing: Ivanova/Garibaldi
Word Count: 1,756
Timeline: Approximately six months before "Language Lessons." (Timeline/master list.)
Summary: Susan, Michael, and Sofie move to Minbar. It's a new beginning, but not in the old way.

Perhaps it was just her imagination, but though the sun gilded all of the buildings on the street, it seemed to make the stained glass windows and crystalline walls of their house glow especially bright, like a beacon for travelers who hadn't even known they were lost. )

Short metaish rambling )
icepixie: ([B5] Ivanova and Garibaldi post-brawl)
Title: A Heart for a Compass (or, A Proposal, the Modesty of Which Is Irrelevant)
Author: [personal profile] icepixie
Rating: PG
Pairing: Ivanova/Garibaldi
Word Count: 561
Summary: Michael asks a question. Fluff. (Well, okay, it's them, so there's a little angst mixed in, but it's mostly fluff.)
Timeline: Spring 2263 (roughly nine or ten months after "The Backstreets of Heaven")
Note: This pretty much exists in order to make an homage to one of my favorite scenes in Lois McMaster Bujold's Vorkosigan series. Hopefully it'll be enjoyable if you haven't read the book in question, though.

So what do you think? )
icepixie: ([B5] New Beginnings Susan)
Title: The Backstreets of Heaven
Author: [personal profile] icepixie
Rating: PG-13, edging toward R
Pairing: Ivanova/Garibaldi (with a brief implication of past Ivanova/Talia)
Word Count: 2,621
Summary: Bester comes to the station, and things go rapidly downhill. It's not quite a revenge tragedy, but it's definitely not fluffy and light.

Notes: Set a couple months after "How We Were Transfigured." (See my handy-dandy timeline.) It combines events from "Strange Relations" and "Phoenix Rising," and there's a reference to "Dust to Dust" in here as well. At this point, I've pretty much given up on trying to work in the whole Byron thing with any accuracy, because I refuse to subject myself to the telepath arc again. Expect a considerable amount of deviation from canon in that regard. (You know, more than this AU already deviates.)

Dedication: To [personal profile] bessemerprocess, who tickled my fancy with the idea of Susan and Michael teaming up to take down Bester.

Bester walks into the maintenance bay to find her pointing her PPG at him. )
icepixie: ([B5] Ivanova and Garibaldi being cute)
Here's a handy-dandy timeline for my Ivanova/Garibaldi AU, which also serves as a master list for everything in it. As I write more in the series (and oh, believe me, I have many bits and pieces littering my hard drive), I'll come back and update this post. You can also read everything in order at the series's page on the AO3.

This AU is a mix of standalones and fics contingent on ones which came before. "Little Dreams" follows directly from "Closet Idealism," and "How We Were Transfigured" follows right after. "Backstreets of Heaven" can follow either "Dreams" or "Transfigured." The others require no background, but they benefit from it.

Jan-Dec. 2260
Closet Idealism [PG-13]
Susan is not as much of a realist as she thought she was. Angst. (1175)

Jan. 2261-May 2262
The Little Dreams We Dream (Are All We Can Really Do) [PG-13]
Susan hasn't been as careful with her heart as she should've been. Angsty, but I do promise the epigraph is pertinent. (9100)

June 2262
How We Were Transfigured [G]
The sharp edge of memory begins to dull. Mostly Ivanova-centric. (425)

August 2262
The Backstreets of Heaven [R]
Bester comes to the station, and things go rapidly downhill. It's not quite a revenge tragedy, but it's definitely not fluffy and light. (2600)

March 2263
With Paper Wings [G]
Michael and Susan are pressed into babysitting duty and as a result, while ostensibly talking about the past and present, wind up having a conversation about the future. Fluff. (Though of course with them, there's always angst lurking in the corners...) (1900)

May 2263
A Heart for a Compass (or, A Proposal, the Modesty of Which Is Irrelevant) [PG]
Michael asks a question. Fluff. Well, okay, it's them, so there's a little angst mixed in, but it's mostly fluff. (550)

December 2263
Epithalamion [G]
On the day of Susan's wedding, she and Delenn have a chat. Susan & Delenn friendship more than anything. (1200)

Autumn 2266
Biological Inefficiencies [G]
"All of your biological inefficiencies are made up for by the fact that your friends can babysit this early in the child's life." - G'Kar. (625)

Spring 2268
We'll Crack the Darkest Sky Wide Open [G]
Susan, Michael, and Sofie move to Minbar. It's a new beginning, but not in the old way. (1750)

Autumn/Winter 2268
Language Lessons [G]
Susan and Michael discover what their friends have been teaching their daughter. (225)

Autumn 2269
Iter Durum [PG]
November is hard for Susan Ivanova, and Michael has learned to give her space on this particular anniversary. It might go on like this forever, but the universe has other plans. (1850)
icepixie: ([B5] Ivanova and Garibaldi post-brawl)
Title: How We Were Transfigured
Author: [personal profile] icepixie
Rating: G
Word Count: 429
Pairing: Ivanova/Garibaldi is mentioned, but it's more of an Ivanova-centric piece
Summary: The sharp edge of memory begins to dull.
Notes: Takes place in my Closet Idealism AU, several weeks after The Little Dreams We Dream...

Near the end of their working lunch—the first time they'd managed to see each other outside of joint staff meetings in over a month—Susan took pity on her former CO. )
icepixie: ([B5] New Beginnings Susan)
I have no explanation for this. There is no one I can blame it on. My brain simply decided G'Kar + babysitting = awesome, and I had to write it or go crazy. And then, obviously, inflict it on you all.

I think I'll ascribe it to my thesis making me crazy.

I promise, one day I will write the slew of fics that bridge the end of "Little Dreams" with these vignettes I keep getting hit with. It will probably be after graduation.

Title: Biological Inefficiencies
Author: [livejournal.com profile] icepixie
Series: Closet Idealism 'verse. Since I am apparently incapable of writing anything else non-academic right now.
Timeline: Roughly a year and a half before "Language Lessons." Actually, you know, I might as well start putting dates on these things, since I made a timeline for this AU and currently have no fewer than eight unfinished fics set at various points along said timeline littering my hard drive; God knows what order they'll all be written in. Let's say near the end of 2265.
Summary: "All of your biological inefficiencies are made up for by the fact that your friends can babysit this early in the child's life." Ivanova/Garibaldi, G'Kar.
Wordcount: 672

Title: Language Lessons
Summary: Susan and Michael discover what their friends have been teaching their daughter. Mentally, I'm setting it a few years on in the Closet Idealism 'verse, but it stands alone. No spoilers for the show.
Notes: [livejournal.com profile] bessemerprocess is entirely to blame for this. I accept no responsibility.

I have committed kidfic. I am so ashamed. )
icepixie: ([B5] Ivanova and Garibaldi being cute)
So, uh, I was not planning on a sequel to "Closet Idealism," and then one day a couple of scenes appeared in my head, and the people in them told me in no uncertain terms that actually, I was going to be writing a sequel, thank you very much. Susan is kind of scary when she doesn't get her way, you know?

Title: The Little Dreams We Dream (Are All We Can Really Do)
Author: [livejournal.com profile] icepixie
Rating: PG-13
Word Count: 9,089
Summary: Susan hasn't been as careful with her heart as she should've been. AU. Ivanova/Garibaldi. Angsty, but I do promise that the epigraph is pertinent. Sequel to "Closet Idealism."
Timeline/Spoilers: This is significantly less canon-adherent than its predecessor--I compressed and reordered a few events to suit my needs, and completely changed others--but still spoils all of season four and one or two things about the first few episodes of season five.
Note: One scene in particular, as well as a few scattered lines of narration, owes a debt of gratitude to [livejournal.com profile] mylittleredgirl's "Dead Souls," which you should totally go read, because it's amazing.

It has been seventeen days since her life took the express transport to hell. )

It occurs to me that this might be the dark twin of my last fic for this show. Hmm. I promise I am working on different things.

Title: Closet Idealism
Author: [livejournal.com profile] icepixie
Rating: PG-13
Wordcount: 1172
Summary: Susan is not as much of a realist as she thought she was. Ivanova/Garibaldi. Angsty. Spoilers through "Z'ha'dum."
Timeline note: The first section takes place near the beginning of season three. The penultimate section occurs about midway through "And the Rock Cried Out..."
