Oh my God, I finally finished a fic!!

(This is the one I've been working on since I was preparing to test Pre-Bronze. It's been my little coping mechanism through three Moves tests now.)

Playing by the Rules (7405 words) by icepixie
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Cutting Edge (1992)
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Douglas Dorsey, Kate Moseley, Anton Pamchenko
Additional Tags: Ice Skating
Summary:

Before Kate and Doug get anywhere near Nationals, Doug has to qualify by passing the US Figure Skating Association's many skating skills tests. It's a bumpy road for both of them.

"I can do crossovers in my sleep. Why the hell do I need to take a test on them?"

"Is just formality," Anton said from the side of the ice. "You have to qualify to compete."

"Who came up with that?"

"Someone very smart, I would think," Kate said loftily. "After all, without the tests, just anybody could walk on the ice and make a fool of themselves at competitions."

To what I assume will be no one's surprise, I wrote The Cutting Edge fic for Yuletide.

It's, um, actually the only fic I've completed this year, minus a tiny thing for [community profile] fandom_stocking. This has definitely been the year of the not!drawerfic. But I had a good time writing it, and my recip appears to have enjoyed it, so: success!

It is Yuletide! And I got a really wonderful Cutting Edge fic that's all about Kate and Doug and SKATING, and done with so much attention to detail and such good writing that it just made me burble happily as I read it this morning.

Me, I only wrote my assignment this year (treating plans all fell through). I feel like it's bleeding obvious which one I wrote, so you're welcome to guess, although I know better this year than to promise ficlets in return! ([personal profile] spatz, I am a horrible person and I still owe you that Follow the Fleet ficlet!)

Dear Yuletide Writer,

THANK YOU for writing for me! I love all these fandoms and characters dearly, and I know I'll love whatever you come up with for them. I'm offering specific prompts for each fandom if you're the kind of writer who prefers them, but please don't feel constrained by them if you're not.

Toepick!
icepixie: (Eep)
OMG. They are seriously making a sequel to that horrifyingly bad sequel to The Cutting Edge, no, really, they are.

Gack. Maybe the writers' strike will put it on hold indefinitely? And then perhaps someone can burn the drafts?
icepixie: (Toepick!)
You know, I think I see something new in The Cutting Edge each time I watch it. This time, it was, "That doctor looks an awful lot like Tigh with hair...OMG, it is Tigh with hair!"

He spends his five minutes in the movie delivering bad news. Naturally.

Heh. Love that movie.* Too bad there's only ever been one fanfic written for it, at least that I've found. There's lots of possibility for fic, particularly set after the film ends, and pretty much anything, even if it were written by a thirteen-year-old, could be better than that abomination of a sequel they came out with last year.

* I'm starting to be able to quote rather large chunks of it. That's...never happened before.
