This makes me want to visit New York really badly. Raul Esparza acting in and Hem doing the music for Twelfth Night in the park? AWESOME.
icepixie: ([Bones] Brennan/Booth Chopsticks)
All Bones episodes should be as hilarious as "The Baby in the Bough." Because Brennan fluttering her hands in a baby's face and singing, "Phalanges! Dancing phalanges!" is the funniest thing I've seen in my life.

Further thoughts on that episode and the rest of S3 )

I also watched the latest episode of Pushing Daisies. OMG SO GOOD. And funny. Can't forget funny. I liked the real CSI vs. private eye angle. Is it just me, or on the map, did the bus drive up to Alaska to indicate where Papen County was? Because there weren't any political borders, but it sure looked way up there.

Apparently Pushing Daisies hit a series low in the ratings last night. (People say there was no promotion whatsoever over the past two weeks, so why am I not surprised?)

I think I'll miss the wordplay (which was excellent in this episode) most of all.

*rains curses upon ABC's collective heads*

(I hear Cupid starts airing on ABC in...spring? I think? I'm debating whether to watch it. I want to watch it, because it's Cupid, but apparently me starting to watch a show from the first episode is certain death. [PD is actually the longest-lasting of those I've started watching when they first air. That's sad.] Maybe I'll let it get some episodes under its belt and to defeat karma before I watch.)

Good news?

I...think this means Pushing Daisies just got renewed?

But only kinda. It's 13 episodes this season, and then they break until May, when production starts on S3 (which will air...god knows when...and be...god knows how many episodes...).

I don't quite understand what's going on here, but since I was pretty much expecting to not even see the back eight of this season until the DVDs came out, I am all asquee!

Spoilers )

I've been reading the ratings thread at TWOP for this show, and now I'm resigning myself to waking up any day now to find the show's been canceled. :( God forbid people watch something that's actually good...

I has pictures! Here are the Biltmore, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and the UT Gardens. The autumn colors in the mountain pictures blow my pictures from last month of the Smokies out of the water, so I may just not bother with them.

Samples under the cut. clicky )

In TV news:
Corner Gas feature film likely (Squee!)
Brent Butt and Nancy Robertson are moving on to a sitcom called Hiccups. Nancy will star as a bipolar children's author (...I can totally see this); Brent will be behind the scenes only.
Something I got from [livejournal.com profile] comedownstairs, among others: Bryan Fuller confirms Pushing Daisies/Wonderfalls crossover. I am all asquee.

I am back from my trip to Asheville. I took something on the order of 250 pictures, which I will put up...well, at the rate I'm going, it might be after I receive my PhD, but anyway. The Biltmore was spectacular, as was the mountain scenery, but let's just say that my fear of heights and the Blue Ridge Parkway do not exactly mesh, and the detour though twisty mountain roads even locals called "evil" we had to use because part of the BRP was closed was an exercise in terror I never plan to revist.

Anyway. Although I don't have time for pictures, I do have time for Pushing Daisies. Spoilers for 2.2 )

Speaking of PD, has anyone been able to see the episodes on the website? Because I've tried two different browsers, with popups both blocked and not, and it still keeps trying to contact ads.doubleclick.net or something like that, and it whirls its way into infinity. I've broken down and bought the last two episodes off of iTunes, but I was hoping to just watch them for free with the ads.

Gah! First Avenue Q, now Yo-Yo Ma. Why does Nashville suddenly bring all the awesome things to town the moment I leave? I swear, it's a conspiracy.

I should take myself off the TPAC mailing list I got one when I bought ballet tickets. It only makes me angry.

Season 2 of Pushing Daisies premieres tonight! I will be making time to watch it tomorrow. Please don't spoil me in the meantime, kthx. (For me this is...probably the worst possible week, time-wise, for it to premiere. I usually have my reading for my Friday class done by now, and I haven't even started yet. Thank you, reports and papers of doom that have been taking up my time. I was so far ahead! Now I'm just barely keeping up! Waaaah! Then again, I guess if I hadn't gotten ahead earlier, I would be behind now, so there's some comfort in that. Doesn't bode well for December, though...)

I have mostly assuaged my Pushing Daisies-inspired yen for pie by picking up the following candle at CVS today: click here.

Yes, it is an apple pie-shaped and scented candle. Hee.

In other food-related news, I bought a bunch of some of the best grapes ever yesterday. Mmmmm, grapes. Mmmm, food. (Thursday has become my grocery shopping day. I am luxuriating in food, food food! Well, not that I didn't have a well-stocked pantry and freezer*, so perhaps I should say "food you don't have to cook," or even more accurately "snack food," but you know what I mean.)

Re: the current media hubbub: All I can say is that I hope, somehow, this inspires a Northern Exposure reunion show. *g*

* Especially freezer, which is currently about to overflow. I'm pretty sure I can't fit one more thing in there. Cooking for one makes lots of leftovers, and I think it'll be awhile until I can face the last of those quesadillas I made almost a month ago.

I don't know why one of the promo pictures for Pushing Daisies S2 is some odd imitation of the Sistine Chapel ceiling. I don't care. I just think it's delightfully surreal.

Also, I want to just go and ruffle Lee's hair in this picture. If we could harness his power of adorable, I think the world's energy crisis would be solved.

*goes to make icons* Is it October 1st yet?
icepixie: ([Pushing Daisies] Alfredo)
I did not know this until today, but Kristen Chenoweth and Raul Esparza performed together at some kind of Broadway revue dealie last spring. They did a couple duets, which have been preserved for posterity here. "Tonight" is wonderful (and somewhat mindbendy, in a "wait a minute, Maria's a blonde and Tony's a Latino?" kind of way), and "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" is pretty funny.

AHEM. So, Olive and Alfredo duet next season, y/y?

Ooooh. How did I not know about this? Pushing Daisies Season 2 Promo. Apparently there will be nuns. And what appears to be Olive as Frauline Maria (or at least Olive in a nun outfit frolicking among mountains). Also there will be pustules. And bees.

I know I'm excited! October 1st, yay! (Well, okay, the following day for me as I have to watch on abc.com, not having a TV and also having a class on Wednesday nights. But still! Soon!)

Emmy stuff

I checked the Emmy nominations for mention of the two shows I actually watch, and was fairly pleased, though not totally. Mary McDonnell got screwed again, because my god, the woman needs an Emmy like yesterday. However, BSG did get a Best Writing nod, and several of the technical categories.

Pushing Daisies fared better--Lee Pace was nominated for Best Actor in a Comedy Series (question: It's more comedy than drama? Since when?), although his eyebrows, sadly, were not. I guess they'll just have to share. Kristin Chenoweth got a nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and the show got a writing nod. Oh, and it was nominated in practically every art-direction-type category--hairstyling, makeup, costuming, etc. Big surprise. :D

Huh. It's novel, actually having watched two shows that got nominations. Usually that doesn't happen.

Someone finally did that ultra-meta Pushing Daisies vid to the reprise of "I'm Not That Girl" from Wicked, so now I won't be tormeted by that vidworm anymore! YAY!

(And it's a good vid, too. More yay!)
icepixie: (Ned with strawberry)
So, ABC, I saw lots and lots of horrible-looking reality shows being advertised tonight. Desperate, much?

Spoilers for the show )
