Never really liked The Overcoat. Gogol is a weird guy. Supposedly Dead Souls is way better than his short stories.
Gogol is definitely weird, but I like him.
This semester in Russian History (1861-Present) we're reading , Week Like Any Other, Through the Burning Steppe and some other stuff. My prof (a woman) defends the excessive amounts of Russian chicklit by saying that it's the best way to understand Communist Russia because the women discuss daily life.
Hmmmm. Interesting. Are you reading We? We're reading that one...should be good. Olshanskaya says that Orwell and Zamyatin had this pen pal thing going on, and Orwell took some stuff from 1984 out of We.
French Cultural Readings is fun. The original "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge" is better!!
I just read that (in English) in my first book for French history, The Great Cat Massacre. The canabalism is...interesting. Little Red Riding Hood putting on a quasi-strip show for the wolf after eating her grandmother is even more interesting.
