What the frell?
Apr. 29th, 2004 04:47 pmFor Faust class, we had to listen to the soundtrack of Randy Newman's musical version of Goethe's play. There's a reason it only played in two cities. There were such lyrical gems as "Someone call a doctor / We got a serious case / Of bleedin' all over the place" sung by the devil (Newman), and an admonition from God (James Taylor--sketchiest Lord ever) to the devil to "Relax, enjoy yourself." Don Henley was an exceptionally foul-mouthed Notre Dame student serving as the Faust figure, Bonnie Raitt was the devil's girlfriend, and Linda Ronstadt(!) was Margaret, singing about how she hopes the boy she likes likes her back, when she was, what, fifty when this was made in 1995? Oh, and theree was Elton John in there somewhere, nancing around about the "little island" of Britain. This had no apparent relation to anything.
It was supposedly comic. Riiiiight. *beats head repeatedly against wall* Oh, my.
