From what I understand, the stereotypical "Canadian" accent (i.e. "oot and aboot the hoose") is from Ontario, although I'm not sure if it extends over all of Ontario or just a small part. I've heard that people from Michigan's UP sound exactly like people from rural Ontario, which I think has the accent.
Yeah, diplomatic work would do a lot to explain the accent as well, but I did sort of want her to start off with one similar to the one she has now...my accent, for instance, would not ever turn into how she speaks, no matter how widely I travelled. ;)
