"Welcome to the WORLD OF TOMORROW!"

So, anyone planning on seeing Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? I've only just heard about it, but apparently it's been big news in the geek circles I don't move in for some time now. My first thought upon seeing the ad on TV was "They made an Honor Harrington movie? How did I not know this?" And then they showed the title of the movie. But Angelina Jolie, with the eyepatch and the hat, makes a scarily accurate Honor Harrington.

I have a sinking feeling it's going to be one of those movies that spent all its money on CGI and none on the script, so I may wait for DVD unless I hear some very good reviews. Hope it's good, though.

The first ad I saw was over a year ago and it used the Stargate Theme song. I was sitting with my mom at Pirates of the Carribbean and we were chattin' it up. I gave myself whiplash when I looked at the screen. I nearly had a heart attack. :)

Well, I want to see it. I saw the promo for it on TV a couple of months ago - they used the Stargate theme tune as background music.

And yeah, I want to see it, but only because I'm desperately in love with Angelina Jolie... (and I have a slight crush on Honor Harrington too, despite the fact that she's fictional. I need more Honor books, yo.)

I thought the exact same thing when I first saw the preview! And I got excited, until I realized it was for Sky Captain, which I've never heard of before.

Mmmm, Honor. I've kind of given up on finishing the series 'cause I just can't get through the technobabble, but I liked Honor herself.

I'm considering just waiting until I get to Exeter to see it...it comes out here the week before I leave, and by the time I get settled in and new-student-orientated, it'll probably be showing there...

I've heard really good and bad. I've heard that visually, it's absolutely stunning and fantastic. But that the storyline is weak and Gwyneth Paltrow's character is very sterotypical, 2 dimentional and boring. Likewise Jude Law's character. I plan on seeing it but, with a lot of movies like this, you gotta "check your brain at the door" and go with the attitude that you're there to be entertained and submerge yourself into another world, not to be challenged mentally. To me, it's going to be like an old afternoon B-movie serial.

You'll definitely find them in any reputable chain, or even large independent, bookstore. But I found that they got way more technobabbly after the first one (which was awesome). Still some nice character moments, but I just couldn't slog through them after a while.

Apparently its big thing is that everything except the main actors is CGI. This doesn't really bode well for the storyline...
