Jun. 7th, 2003 02:41 pmI finally gave in and created an account at fanfiction.net. I have no idea why, but for some irrational reason, I've never put any of my stuff in the big archives (Gossamer, Heliopolis, ASC, etc. etc.). I think I got into the habit of not doing that because I used to go back and change things a lot, so it was easier to keep it all on my own page. Well, that and the fact that I didn't have newsgroup access for a long time, and that was the easiest way to get Trek and XF stuff archived. And the aversion to ffnet probably comes from the fact that I despise the way that site is organized...blarg. Yeah, I know, probably most of the things I don't like about it come from the fact that it's automated, but still... *grumble grumble*
But anyway, yeah. Account at ffnet. I'm uploading all the recent/good stuff I've got, which is less than half of what I have at my own site. I'd take down the old/bad stuff, but if someone's desperate enough to find my page, they're probably desperate enough to read semi-bad (or maybe even just plain bad) fic. Heh. My handle/pen name/nom plume or whatever they call it over there is Rebecca Helton, 'cause I'm just so creative. *rolls eyes at self* I'll have stuff in the Farscape, SG-1, XF, and I-man categories. Maybe some more, but probably not.
And now I need to go get started on something for the Tennessean's fiction contest. I find it extremely irritating that each entry can only be 800 words. David B. Coe wrote the opening bit that everyone has to start with, and IIRC, he's one of the judges, so maybe I can get away with something fantasy-ish this year. Did you know he lives in Sewanee, TN? We're becoming a magnet for SFF writers...this guy, Andre Norton in Murfreesboro...I think there's someone else over in east TN, too. Hey, how come these people never showed up at the Southern Festival of Books when I was still home in October? Dammit. Sharyn McCrumb, Joan Hess, and James Howe were awesome, but we never have SFF writers come. Grrr.
Mmmkay, rant over.
