A five-months-late Valentine, or perhaps a fond farewell...

DISCLAIMER: Farscape isn't mine, although since Sci-Fi obviously doesn't want it, I'd be happy to take it off their hands... The quotations at the beginning and end are from *The Velveteen Rabbit*, by Margery Williams.
FEEDBACK/ARCHIVING: Please and thank you to both. Send archive URLs and comments to author1@comcast.net .
RATING: G to PG.
CATEGORY: Are there such things as sad parodies? Kind of a sad weirdfic.
NOTES: Thanks to Kate/[livejournal.com profile] tarzanic for the beta!
SUMMARY: Pilot's meditations on what is real.

YES! *praises Limewire to the skies* WOO-HOO!!! I finally have a copy of Solas' version of Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier/Suil Agra. Wheee!!!

Ahem. This is not to say that I don't already own this on CD, and that this mp3 wasn't obtained through completely legal means. *crosses fingers behind back* ;) In all seriousness, I'll probably buy at least one CD by them in the near future, 'cause they rock.

And that song is a slow swing, or maybe a very fast West Coast. Sometimes I really miss ballroom when I'm at home. *sigh* Probably not gonna do much competing next year, but I miss just the lessons and open dancing more than the competing anyway. (Okay, there were certain people I enjoyed the open dancing with more than others. Hehehe.) I'll probably do U of Michigan next fall and Ohio State next spring, but skip the rest. I think I'll probably concentrate more on the academic side of things next year...I have a 3.5 GPA at the moment, but I kind of miss the 4.0+ I had in high school. Not enough to completely cut out extra-curriculars, like I did in HS, but a little. Besides, I'm taking two English classes (well, the 20th century Irish lit class and the poetry seminar), a history class, and Bio in Sci-Fi. I'm gonna have reading coming out my ears. Plus if I get into Chamber Singers I'll have five hours of that a week, and it's an academic course. Not to mention my job at the writing center and how I really, really hope I get to be a student associate at the Kenyon Review next year. Plus the Pez Club started taking up gobs of time last semester (so not what it sounds like. It's a writing group Whitney, Chandra, Ellen, Becky and I formed that does dorky activites together and makes up secret codes and stuff. Way fun), and it's entirely possible that my future roommate, Kate, will convince me to come to fencing once a week with her. And we'll apparently have the weekly Stargate party in the Wellness lounge with Andy and various others when it's showing, so hey. Social life is filling up fast, and I'm not even back yet.

But as I was saying, ballroom. I miss just fooling around with dance moves. Peter and I managed to have a good time at the 80s dance starting out with jive to some random 80s song, but ending up doing a strange mixture of jive, lindy hop, hustle, and samba and falling all over ourselves laughing. Heh. Phil and Ale and other people were all cracking up, too. There's even a part of me--the masochistic part--that misses Igor lessons. Well, maybe not the pain and torture (there was one time that if we did the cha-cha basic one more time...), but other stuff.

1. Learning new things (the second-to-last Int'l Rumba combination made me love the dance. The last combination made me hate it again)
2. Standing at the back and commiserating with Kate (an entirely different Kate than future-roomie or [livejournal.com profile] tarzanic) about how much we suck compared to people like Ksenia and Sara
3. Getting accidentally lifted and twirled entirely off the floor by 6'4" J.P. when we get the bright idea to do Quickstep together (I'm sure Viennese Waltz would send me flying even higher)
4. Igor's...unique...idea of history, delivered in his Russian accent ("Waltz was invented in Egypt. Turn to the side." *everyone does while standing half-elevated on toes with legs shoulder-length apart and arms held out* "See? Looks exactly like the hieroglyphics!")
5. And that ever-so-rare compliment from Igor himself. Oh, hell yeah, that feels good.

Anyway. Missing ballroom and school in general. Need to train up one of my guy friends back here or somethin'. Too bad I know nothing about the guy's part in almost all the dances... ;)
