Tonight was good. I was finally able to go to an Igor lesson for the first time since October break, since it was 9 to 11 on a non-Monday or Wednesday night instead of 10 to 12, which it has been for the past couple of weeks. MW, I go to bed at 12, which means I'd have to leave the dance studio no later than 11, and since Igor wouldn't get there until 10:30, it wasn't really worth it.
But anyway, we did Samba and Viennese Waltz tonight. Viennese was...Viennese, and can best be summed up by the description "It's like bumper cars. But without the car. Or the bumper." (TM me and ballroom Kate) However, at least it wasn't that horrible endurance Viennese that they had for the first round of bronze at Notre Dame last year, which had to have lasted for at least three minutes. (When you're spinning around once every three beats of--well, "Carol of the Bells" is a Viennese, so think a half revolution every three beats of that--three minutes is a long time.) There was no spinning-induced nausea tonight, thankfully. There was, however, a fall by me when I was practicing the maple for Samba on my own. I'd done the entire choreography--which includes spinning in a very tight circle for eight counts--twice, and I just couldn't take it anymore. Cori said the fall looked very natural, though. ;) But YAY for finally figuring out that damned maple! YAAAAAAAAAAAY!!!! Couldn't do it at all last year. Now I'm able to get into it from the bota fogas, doing the right number of revolutions, and ending up facing the guy. Go me.
