Lazy day

This is the laziest day in recent memory. I woke up at noon, and haven't really done a whole lot since then. Well, okay--I did three things. I walked the 2/3 of a mile to the bookstore to get some milk for the tea I had after walking back, both of which woke me up considerably. I also finished my art project for the door to our flat, which now says "Welcome to the Pez Zoo," along with all of our names/aliases and pictures of various animals (the reason for this is that the "200" label outside our door is done in a font that makes it look like "zoo," so I just ran with it).

Oh, and I actually did a wee bit of work, by which I mean I'm a tiny bit closer to deciding what I want the research paper for my British Empire course to be about. (Assuming I can talk Kinzer into letting me replace the three short, readings-based papers with this longer one, anyway.) I want to write about how the cultures under British rule influenced the culture of Britain, i.e. curry and tea from India/South Asian areas; the influx of Caribbean immigrants that began after WWII (especially since we saw a musical and read two books about that last semester...not to mention because I WAS THERE); and other things of that nature. Which is a huge subject, and I need to narrow it down, and hopefully bring the focus on one particular event or person or time period, but I'm not really sure how to do that yet.

The other idea is "Victorian British Empire through literature," which I think I already talked about here, and which the English major side of me is way interested in.

Bah. I hate decisions.

Anyway, hoping to get some comps work done today; I have a half-finished poem that I can't quite get right, but I'm going to work on it. Not to mention I need to finish one of the six zillion short stories I have on my HD for the Advanced Fiction submission that I'm sure will be due very shortly.

The reason I woke up at noon? Ballroom's annual swing dance. It was somewhat poorly attended this year, which was sad, but we had some great entrants in the contest anyway. This freshman class is scarily talented. I did a lot of single- and triple-step swing, finally got Valerie to teach me the sweetheart step, and relearned the jive choreography from Marta. (I still suck at it after three years, and it only involves three steps. *sigh*) [livejournal.com profile] orangetango and I attempted Quickstep towards the end of the night, but it was sadly not a success. But she looked awesome in her swing outfit. :) I, on the other hand, looked like Strawberry Shortcake, but hey, that's cute, too.

Somehow, by 11:30, the proud few who remained ended up sitting in a circle playing first Duck Duck Goose, then that Girl Scouts handclapping game to "Down by the Riverside" (which, oddly enough, a guy who'd never played it before won), and finally some horrifyingly complicated thing called "The Cup Game," which I gave up on after two tries. I'm not coordinated enough for that kind of thing, nope, not me.

Totally unrelated to anything: *points to music field* Most beautiful choral piece I have heard in several years. *loves*
