icepixie: (Between Us)
I found another grad school to apply to! That brings the total up to...two. Hmmm. The two candidates at the moment are Cornell and the University of Delaware. I obviously need to work on that "moving to a place without snow" thing. And also that "applying to places where I actually have a shot of getting in" deal.

(Well, UDel doesn't look completely impossible to get into. Cornell is laughable, though. No way am I getting into an institution that shares the number one spot in every ranking of graduate English programs. But such a pretty interdisciplinary program...)

UDel's program looks really cool, at least from what's available on their website. It seems to focus on looking at texts in a historical context, which is one of the things I hope to do. And four of the courses offered this semester, Mapping the Middle Ages, Renaissance Spacetime, American Book Culture, and 20th Century Poetries, look incredibly cool.

I'm tentatively poking at undergrad essays to turn into critical writing samples. I think it'll be either the Yeats/Morris paper I did for Jesse, or the Looney Tunes/Farscape paper I did for that film comedy class at Exeter. The cartoon paper probably has more original thought in it (and it uses more litcrit buzzwords), but the subject matter might be a little too esoteric. Then again, I want to study historical fiction and science fiction/fantasy, so maybe this is a plus...
