icepixie: ([Fringe] Olivia in a hat)
Spoilers )

Finally, GIP for those reading this on LJ. :)
icepixie: ([Movies] Ginger Dance Twist)
Girlyman
[livejournal.com profile] asinpterodactyl, I seem to recall you mentioning this band before, but I foolishly didn't pay attention. But now I have seen the light! (And heard the awesome harmonies!)

The Shape I Found You In - My favorite of what I've heard. Great, image-heavy lyrics, lovely harmonies, beautiful melody.

St. Peter's Bones - Bouncier than above. Features one of the male singers instead of the girl.

The Innocence Mission
Yeah, I've recced them before; some of their music still makes me roll my eyes, but these, which I just heard recently, do not.

500 Miles - A gorgeous take on an old folksong. Karen Peris was made to sing about taking trains and being far from home. (I really want to vid this, but I'm not sure what I'd use. It could possibly be a Fraser vid, but it would cover a lot of the same ground I want to cover in that "Half Acre" vid I'm going to make one day.)

Every Hour Here - Once upon a time, this outfit used to sound kind of like the Cocteau Twins. Except they didn't sing in a made-up language; in fact, if you read the lyrics, this is a rather interesting meditation on faith.

Evensong - Another Cocteau Twinsish song. On some level, it also reminds me of some of the songs from The Cure's Disintegration album, if Robert Smith were a girl.

Deb Talan
For those who don't know, Deb Talan is one half of The Weepies, who are really wonderful. She's quite wonderful on her own, too. Her music is a bit more introspective, maybe a little darker, than what she does with Steve Tannen, but largely very similar. Forgiven, Tenderness, and River are three of my favorites from her earlier, sparer albums; from the most recent (and IMO the best), I'm partial to Comfort, Big Strong Girl, and Sincerely.

Ruth Moody
Ruth Moody is the soprano voice of the Wailin' Jennys. She also has some nice solo stuff up at her Myspace, the best of which is "All the Stars." "Winter Swells" is also very good.

Jessica Riddle
She reminds me of someone, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Perhaps a much more dramatic Vienna Teng crossed with Holly Brook? Anyway, Gone is very nice.
