Aug. 26th, 2012 12:42 pmHem just posted that the new album is complete!(!!!!) Now to just wait not-very-patiently for the actual release. (FIVE YEARS since the last real album. Aiiieee.)
In the meantime, have some more goodies from NoiseTrade:
SHEL - If you can imagine such a thing as doo wop bluegrass, you have successfully imagined this band. If The Wailin' Jennys and The Puppini Sisters got together for a jam session, they would probably produce something like this. My favorite from the offerings here is "Ruby Slippers," but I also like "Wise Old Owl" and "Try to Scream." ("Ruby Slippers" might become the new song for the screwball comedy vid I keep putting off.) From Grooveshark, I also like Fisherman.
Matthew Perryman Jones - He put up a whole new album, but I think it's only available for two or three more days, so check it out soon. I can't think of a direct comparison right now, but he's somewhat reminiscent of a more folky version of several guy-fronted alternativeish bands from the 90s. "Keep It on the Inside" is my favorite, though that may entirely be due to the guitar line. Most of the rest are good too.
Tift Merritt - ...I'm going to have to own up to liking someone who can only be categorized as country, can't I? Meep. She's country in the same rootsy kind of way Gillian Welch and Emmylou Harris are. I like the first two songs here quite a lot.
