Skating: Adventures in the Alpha Class
Jul. 20th, 2013 12:29 pmI finally managed to do a series of forward crossovers all the way around a hockey circle. \o/!
I can only do them well going clockwise--CCW isn't quite there yet--but I can do it! My class has a new instructor for this session, and she had some new and helpful ways of practicing the things.
We also learned how to T-stop, which...is going to take work. I sort of have it using my right foot as the brake, but the other side has issues. Many, many issues.
And finally, backwards stroking, which is the hardest thing we've learned in this class so far. Going backwards is fine, it's the "picking your foot up after each stroke" that's not really making its way into my brain. I sort of have it on the right foot, but the left foot is going, "Nope, I'll stay here on the ice, thanks." (This could be because my physical therapist has been doing this thing where he works over the entire back of my ankle and most of my calf with this plastic scraper thingy he says removes fibrous scar tissue in the tendon, which hurts like hell while he's doing it but does seem to make everything much stretchier and less painful. He did the right ankle on Tuesday and the left on Thursday, so it could be relatively more tender, I guess.)
In further exciting news, since public sessions are off until the broken rink gets fixed, this week I'm going to my first freestyle session! My instructor assured me I wouldn't be a road hazard at the one that fits my schedule best, so...yay? I just have to get up at ungodly o'clock to make it before work. Uuuuuugh.

Other plans for the weekend: Write at least the 1,875 words necessary to get the not!drawerfic up to 40K. I have plans for several scenes that are all going to be fun to write (and I hope to read), but no really coherent way to string them together. Gotta work on that. I also want to go to this restaurant at some point. The jagerwurst sounds delicious, and I'm very intrigued by the strawberry ginger ale.
