Skating blather
Oct. 5th, 2013 11:49 amIf I can master the hockey stop in the next two weeks, I think my instructor will pass me through both Beta and Gamma this session. Nifty! It's not a big deal to me either way, aside from bragging rights, because as long as I keep getting new stuff introduced and getting my old stuff cleaned up I don't really care how many levels I pass or don't pass, but I still feel like a prodigy. :D
Speaking of hockey stops...uuuuugh, hockey stops. WHY. Why do we need to learn these things? I assume some part of a hockey stop is useful somewhere down the line in another element, but right now they're just annoying. Also terrifying.
But hey, at least I can do a three turn on both sides now!
After class, I got recruited to join the local USFSA club. I think? Kind of? I had a slightly odd conversation with someone whom I think is on the board. She sat down while I was wiping off my blades, introduced herself, and said she was so pleased to see another adult skater because there are so few of us. There was some more about an adult-heavy practice session (that I can't make because it's mid-morning on a weekday), and how she's trying to recruit more adults to join the club, and also that there's some kind of basic skills competition here in February. We were both so flustered at the idea of someone who skates who isn't between the ages of 5 and 15 that the conversation didn't really go anywhere after that, so I'm not really sure what I should do with this information. But perhaps I'll see her again sometime.
