YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS, I LANDED MY WALTZ JUMP.
It's tiny. So very tiny. But it takes off on one foot, lands on the other, and both feet are off the ground in between takeoff and landing, so I'm calling it a success.
I was seriously starting to wonder if I was so scared of jumping that I would just never be able to do it and would have to turn to ice dance and/or figures if I wanted to keep doing this at all. (Not that they aren't great, and I'll probably do both eventually--well, if I can find someone old or nerdy enough to teach me figures--but I want to get further in freestyle too. I have dreams of achieving all my single jumps and at least one flying spin.)
Now I need to get my half flip to the same state. Right now it's more of a "plant toe pick, turn, step on other toe pick" maneuver than an actual jump.
In other fabulous news, I have conquered the inside three turn. It's just the glide on the back outside edge after that I can't manage. But at least I'm turning and getting an inch or two after before I have to put my foot down. Now I think I just need to practice going backwards on my outside edges until I can get my weight over to that side without so much of a problem.
(See, this is what I like about skating. You can always analyze how something's going wrong, work on the part that's broken, and then put it all together again. It appeals to the INTJ systems builder in me.)
