Saturday class
Jan. 18th, 2014 12:17 pmI have a new nemesis. It's called the ballet jump. It requires you to jump in place on your toe pick before putting the other foot down.
Now, the half flip goes right pick, turn (in the air), left pick, right foot, and that's not so bad. I mean, I still haven't gotten the "in the air" part of the turn down yet--I do more of a half flip step--but still. This is a whole other level of horror. C had me do it while holding my hands, and I kind of...bent my knee a bit to indicate where the jump should go. "Where's the jump?" asked C. "Whimpering in fear and asking why I don't respect gravity," I did not reply.
That said, speed going into it may help. I started doing my waltz jump out of back crossovers, and the momentum does improve things. I actually had both feet off the ground for longer than a millisecond today. Two milliseconds! Perhaps one day I will approach five!
We're moving to the USFS Basic Skills system rather than ISI's with the next session, so C has decided to get us all caught up on the skills that don't cross over, of which the ballet jump is one. (It's in ISI Freestyle 2 or something like that.) USFS also has an Adult Basic Skills curriculum, which I think I've linked to before. You will note there are no jumps there. This seems wise.
