icepixie: ([Skating] Z&G marionette far away)
I have to admit, when I saw that every (single-digit) piece of China Beach fanfic out there was KC/McMurphy femslash, I was a bit surprised, because they'd only shared extended scenes of substance in "Tet '68."

And then tonight I watched "The Unquiet Earth."* And...yeah, I get it now. Do I ever. It's not quite the type of ship I can go for--it leans a bit frenemyish--but the chemistry between those two certainly sparked and crackled.

I also loved Spoilers for CERTAIN PEOPLE )

* Because my season three DVDs are finally heeeeeere! Too bad I have to go in to work early tomorrow and have to go to bed oh, now, so I can't stay up and watch more. :(

In other news, I went to the new ice rink on Sunday and it was indeed very nice! They have glassed-in observation areas on the first floor and a little one upstairs, which I'm sure the parents will appreciate. Sadly, the rumor of reserving one rink for figure skating and one for hockey did not come true, and the ice was rutted already, but that's par for the course down here. It was still nice. We again had our 8-10-person strong adult contingent and no kids, which was amazing. Some of the kids are all right, but some just don't have any capacity to look where they're going, or any understanding that there are other people on the ice. They also don't seem to understand that not only can we not get out of the way as quickly as they could, but we have mass on our side, and a collision will hurt them more than us. (But it will hurt us enough to want to avoid it.)

This week also saw the reinstatement of early morning ice times at my regular rink, and of me getting up early to get to them. Uuuuugh. Yay, but ugh. Me and one other person on the ice = good. Waking up at 5:15 = bad.

My inside three turns have gone on vacation again. I should really stop saying that; they work so infrequently that it's more like they're on vacation when they come to me, and they live somewhere else 90% of the time. On the other hand, because there were so few people this morning, I was able to see my tracings for my back outside edges on a line, and they were so smooth and uniform! Back outside edges are my wobbliest, too. Yay.
