Better days
Nov. 4th, 2014 06:44 pmIt's amazing what a little estrogen can do for your mood. Or, you know, not hemorrhaging at irregular intervals, and having a lifting of the cramps that have plagued one's abdomen for four days straight. I think that probably has more to do with it.
As you may have surmised, the new pills seem to be working. We'll have to see what the breaks are like--because if they're like recent events, I'm definitely demanding something surgical--but so far, things are promising.
They are so promising that I managed two straight days of practice after work, to make up for missing my lesson/rehearsal on Saturday (grrr) and because I won't have a chance to skate for the rest of the week thanks to work stuff.
May I just say, I knew my troubles with the Waltz 8 were pretty much over but for nitpicky things when I found myself using it as a warm up today. When I started learning it in February, I honestly never thought I'd master it. Amazing.
My toe loop is still a disaster, but whatever. On my scratch spin, today I actually managed three revolutions on one foot, on the sweet spot of the blade, and two more as I fell to the inside edge. PROGRESS. Especially since my blades seem to no longer hold much of an edge, so I'm skidding all over the place despite having them sharpened right before my unexpected break.
My half flip feels super half-flippy since P pointed out I wasn't leaving my pick in the ice long enough to draw my leg up under me in a kind of pole vault position. Now it has spring! Air time! It's quite spiffy.
I hear that costumes for the cat-themed adult group number in the show are pretty much going to be "wear something you like that's semi-dressy and add a pair of cat ears to it," which I am totally, totally down with. Long-sleeved leotard and simple ballet wrap skirt I can re-use for testing, here I come. That said, despite my aversion to bling, not to mention my aversion to paying much money for costumes, this creation, or this one, that one of the other group members pointed me to is very pretty. And I could wear my sports bra with the first one, at least. That is always a consideration with these things. Mesh backs and I are never, ever going to get along.
I also hear that the music for the show is lots of jazzy, big band-flavored Christmas carols from a variety of folks like Ella Fitzgerald and the Brian Setzer Orchestra. And in the middle is thirty seconds of the Meow Mix theme tune.
...Yeah.
