icepixie: ([Skating] Roca Sur love on the rocks)
I'm between writing projects at the moment (I need to start back up on the not!drawerfic, but I really need to re-read what I have first...), so I went to the Sunday practice session at New Rink, primarily to mess around with the Bronze Moves patterns. I'm glad I did, because succeeded in doing a one-foot spin without starting from a two-foot spin! It requires a lot more of a kick forward than I'd been doing. Like, you basically have to pretend you're kicking a soccer ball. It rocks you up practically onto the toe pick, and you have to just trust that physics will bring you back down to the right spot on the blade without letting you topple over.

(This is a lot more trust than I am used to allotting physics on a hard surface.)

Moves were a shambles, but I suppose that's to be expected. I have no idea how one fits in the end pattern on the power perimeter stroking. Perhaps if one is only three feet tall. (More likely, one has to make deeper lobes on the forward crossover pattern than I do so one is not already past the goal line when it's time to do the end pattern. Sneaky pattern-makers, not letting us cheat!) Back crossovers to back outside edges were a lost cause because I have no idea what to do with my arms. I think possibly the point of the five-step mohawk is to ensure you know how to slow down when the pattern is doing its best to make you build up a giant head of steam.

I am, really, really going to have to start checking my three turns better if I want to do the power three pattern. Uuuugh.

The circle 8 is relatively okay, though. I have the inside and about 75% of the outside.

Whatever; I can get into a spin like a real skater now!
