icepixie: ([Movies] Toepick!)
Okay, so I can get myself into a forward scratch spin without resorting to a two-foot entrance, and I can even eke out a couple revolutions once I get into the spin. I have a new problem, though. Before, I was spinning on the middle of the blade. Now, I am halfway up my toe pick. As you may imagine, toe picks are not particularly conducive to spinning.

Sigh. Fix one problem, get another. At least is is a better problem to have. (The traveling, though, is...interesting. One particularly fabulous spin made a little circle of loops, much like this. In case you were wondering, that is not what you want your spin tracing to look like.)

I re-read the directions for the power three pattern, and...eeeyurk. They want you to cover the long axis of the rink with only 3-6 three turn/back crossover combinations? Really? I think I had to take twelve to do it today. Obviously I need to get P to teach me how one places these things.

Anyway. Good things (besides the spin entry sort of working):

1. The Salchow entry makes incremental progress toward being an actual entry. I'm still not getting off the ground, but I'm getting around further.

2. Back power pulls on the left leg that actually look like (very small) power pulls rather than a wobbly one-foot glide. Woo! Right leg is not quite there yet, perhaps because of all the recent blade tinkering.

3. I've got the placement/lobe depth for the power perimeter stroking down cold. Well, the front part and the end pattern, anyway. I think I'm doing one more back crossover/power push than I'm supposed to. Still, I'm impressed I have the end pattern.

4. RS played some music and gave me a cadence to do the 5-step mohawk to, and it really worked! It was much smoother and didn't end up twice as fast at the end as at the beginning. Lobes still need to be deeper, but that's the story of Bronze Moves.
