Hooray for [livejournal.com profile] softstepshoes's mad hair-cutting skillz! My hair is about three inches shorter, the split ends are completely gone, and it isn't falling out in big clumps. Wheeee!

Also, it was actually warm and sunny enough to wear shorts today. Shock and amazement does not begin to cover it. There were brief moments this afternoon wherein I wished I had my fan from freshman year in my room.

Hmmmm. I meant to get more words on my paper tonight. Still might; the goal has been reduced from 2000 to 1500, and I have 1275, and it's not like I'm going to bed before two. (I stayed up until 4 AM last night reading for pleasure and didn't get up till noon, so...) So, in honor of being a lazy bum (and because [livejournal.com profile] babylil told me I had to), I give you

Book You're Reading Now:
Um, which one? I'm in the middle of Winter's Tale by Mark Helprin, and as soon as I finish these papers, I'll finish it. I've been reading Sarah Zettel's The Firebird's Vengeance since March, and it's doubtful that I'll finish it, as it's getting too self-consciously Olde English Fantastic for my tastes. And I've been "reading" The Virginian by Owen Wister since August, with an eye to finishing it over the summer.

Last Book You Read:
I just finished rereading I Capture the Castle around 4 o'clock this morning.

Next Book You're going to Buy/Read:
I need to make it through at least half of Persuasion before our lunch discussion about it on Thursday, come to think of it. But the next book I'll start after that is probably The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Book You've Read the Most Times:
Shards of Honor and Barrayar by Lois McMaster Bujold. Probably five or six times since Corde introduced me to them when I was...fifteen or sixteen, I can't remember which.

Longest Book You've Read:
The books in George R. R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series are pretty hefty, at around 900 pages each. I feel like I've read something longer at some point, but it must not have been memorable.

Book You've Read in the Shortest Time:
I really have no idea.

One Book You Wanted To Read That Disappointed You:
Diplomatic Immunity by LMB. (I'm referencing her all over the place, but that's only because my bookshelf is 4,000 miles away at the moment and I have no recollection of what else is on it.) It was just so...meh.

Have You Read Books in a Different Language From Yours?
I got through about thirty pages of Don Quijote when I was in AP Spanish, but Cervantes is like reading Shakespeare in English, so I gave up pretty easily. I've read some Pablo Neruda and Octavio Paz in Spanish. Oh, and I muddled my way through a good bit of Marina Anissina's and Gwendal Peizerat's book when it came out. :)

Writer You've Read the Most From:
Let's not count all the interminable children's series I read, like the Babysitters' Club and all that. Um...LMB, probably. Or maybe Sharyn McCrumb. Possibly Katharine Kerr. Come to think of it, it might be Shakespeare. If poetry counts, it's definitely Yeats.

Some Books You Like:
"Some"? What kind of question is this? Um...practically everything by LMB. I Capture the Castle. Everything by Bill Bryson. Sharyn McCrumb's The Songcatcher. Phillip Pullman's The Colden Compas. Cecilia Dart-Thornton's The Ill-Made Mute (though nothing else by her). Neil Gaiman: Stardust, Neverwhere, American Gods. The A Song of Ice and Fire series. And more.

Some Books You Don't Like:
Again, stupid question. Wuthering Heights probably tops the list. A House for Mr. Biswas isn't too far behind. Anything by Melville or Dickens or Faulkner. The Red Badge of Courage. Etc.
