I'm very happy (http://www.cleverocity.ca/album/) with this Gallery software (http://gallery.menalto.com/), although it is php - I know next to nothing about php myself. Generally it is very easy to use, and you don't actually need to know php or anything to use it as it has a very good interface with nice clicky buttons. (As proof, my computer-illiterate mom is able to operate her gallery (http://cleverocity.ca/janegallery/Dolls) without any trouble.)
