My particular model of iBook apparently has big trouble with this, so much so that they're replacing them free of charge. Or they did for the first time around, anyway. I don't know if they do it more than once, but I have AppleCare for another few months, at least, so in it goes. I wonder if all the various iBooks are having this problem, if yours is also doing the same thing... (Isn't yours newer than mine? Post-2002?)
