Haaaaaaaaate.
Dec. 7th, 2005 05:23 pmReason number 5,876,935 why Microsoft is The Devil:
So I have this AVI file I'd like to watch. Unfortunately, it was encoded in WMV3 format. No amount of freeware or codecs or anything will play this format on a Mac. Not in Quicktime, not in VLC, not in MPlayer, not even in Windows Media Player (after all, why should Microsoft support their own formats with THEIR OWN FREAKING PROGRAM? *headdesk*). Extensive Google research has convinced me that the only way to play this file would be to use some strange program that converts video and audio streams separately, and involves a certain amount of programing in the Unix shell of the OS, which...no.
Apparently even the Windows version of Windows Media Player sometimes has issues with this particular format. I...ow. The stupidity, it burns, precious, it burrrrrrns! Still might try opening it on one of the school PCs, though.
Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
