Ballroom'd!

icepixieOw, ow, ow. Haven't worn my ballroom shoes in close to a year, and wow, does it show. Pain. At least the "improvers" lesson tonight was more of a beginner lesson for various reasons, so I wasn't trying to learn new stuff and stay upright at the same time. It was Latin night tonight, apparently, and we did varying amounts of Jive, Rumba, Cha-Cha, and Samba. There are a couple steps just different enough over here to keep my attention, which is nice. They do Samba walks a different way, and there's a new Rumba step that I've never seen before that reminds me of that time I did "Nightclub Two Step" at Notre Dame freshman year.
Not to be vain or anything, but I think my Latin technique, shoddy as it is, might actually be better than most people's in this club, which is astonishing. (Of course, they don't have the little Latin explosion that is Igor drilling rumba technique into them every lesson for an entire semester, so... And also they may just not have been trying, as it was mostly a beginner lesson.) Although I'm sure I'll make up for it by my complete lack of Standard technique, so I'm not getting too excited. But hey, I feel good at this, woo!
Also, ballroom music is totally universal at college clubs. We had the George in the Jungle-esque Samba, various Santana cha-chas, "Jack is Back" for Jive, an "Send it in a Letter" (or whatever that song is) that I thought would be swing but wasn't, and, of course, "Letkiss." Hee.
*looks at clock* Why do I have class at nine tomorrow? Ew.
