Blarg. More Millay-influenced stuff (and pretty obviously, too, I'd say). I'm not so sure I like it, but it's an interesting change from basically all of my earlier work, which quite different from this in both style and subject matter.

Scheduled Maintenence

I took my heart in for scheduled maintenence.
3,000 miles, six years and it needed a tune up.
They replaced the loves I'd lost,
fixed the hearts I'd broken,
cleaned out memories that were clogging up the works.

They said it should run smooth, because
noew shock absorbers would lessen the bumps in the road.
The fuel intake was free of dirt,
ready to go longer when given less.
No more breakdowns on lonely roads in the middle of the night.

It should be good as new!
And yet I wonder, as it beats to tell me it's there,
why my heart feels empty and strange,
why I miss the little quirks, the odd noises,
feeling the bumps in the road, the slow starts on cold mornings.
