Relationship/Character arcs: Are the way to go, methinks. And Big Finish is very good at them, actually...they've built some with each of the Doctors, with each of their new companions. And it's kind of the best of both worlds...I think the character development is what we love most about the plot arcs even, but this way no one feels trapped into buying stories they don't want.
Time War: *Shrugs* I think they could do it without too much jumping if they wanted. One last big Time War storyline as a special event, then go back to wherever they'd previously left the 8th Doc and continue from there. Maybe the Time War would have the Doctor alone or with new companions, which would leave the regular adventures free to continue building their character arcs in whatever direction.
