I've always thought Nicola Bryant had absolutely the worst American accent I've ever heard (though I hear I'm in for a real education in just how bad they can be in Minuet in Hell, so perhaps I should reserve judgment!). I don't think having dual citizenship makes a jot of difference--one of my colleagues kids have dual citizenship and grew up with a British father and I'm not at all sure that they could do a passable accent if necessary. I think she just hasn't got a good ear for accents, and that's all there is to it. And alas, nobody back in 1983 could figure that out (or else they just didn't care).
I haven't seen "Earthshock" in ages--but I thought I remembered hearing recently that on the commentary, they talk about how they were trying not to giggle when Adric died? Is that true? Poor Matthew Waterhouse. I never had the intense hate for Adric that so many people do, though I see how you could easily be incredibly annoyed by him. I'd imagine hanging out with Janet Fielding would be an absolute blast.
(I love the title "Earthshock," but ever since I first saw it, I've had this terribly tendency to get it mixed up with the word "earth-shattering," which must really make people wonder!)
