Wow. I think that has to be the longest spoiler-free commentary I've ever read! I was expecting a few lines and then a cut. :)
Heh. Well, complaining about identical McGanns is hardly spoilery, and that took up most of it. ;)
I've been interested in Irish history since a year or two before I went to NI, but I've never delved into it as deeply as you have, so hopefully I won't have that issue with the series, whenever I get around to seeing it.
I think I've really just gone into Ireland overload over the past few years. I need to find another country to fangirl for a while. *g*
I have seen The Field, but it's been a while.
Eeeek. I've tried to block all memory of that movie from my brain.
But, yeah, potato famine + English land agents=depressing. And not a little evil.
Pretty much. I think Irish lit and media in general tends toward the depressing with exceptional alacrity. I'm still looking for an Irish film with a happy ending.
I'm not having any trouble telling the two brothers apart in those pics, but stills aren't the same as moving images, so that'll be the real test. ;)
Indeed. I think if you know in advance that they're separate people who happen to look a lot alike, it might help. Just remember that Paul's character doesn't show up until the very end of the first episode.

Anyway--thanks for posting all that!
No problem! I like babbling about Irish stuff. :)
