lifeonmartha is...freaking me out, actually. I mean, I assume the creation of it was at least partially tongue-in-cheek, but the fact that there are icons and fanfic up about a character whose name--nothing else, just the name and who would be playing her--was just revealed yesterday is making me take a big step back and go, "Whoa."
I'm starting to think that DW fandom is even more batshit crazy than SG-1 fandom was/is. That's a really horrifying thought.
lifeonmartha was created so discussion about her can go somewhere where it won't be subject to bitching by the folks at T&C, but is still affiliated. I'm baffled that there's content other than discussion, though.
And...I guess by the "other day" I mean yesterday. Boy how time flies.
Anyhoo, it's totally not surprising. And it's not the actress' or the character's fault that the BBC chose a piss-poor time to officially announce her. I actually feel bad for her. But the rabid love for a character that hasn't had a second of screen time yet? Well, "anyone but Rose" don't you know.

That's...eminently reasonable, actually. *g* I boggle at the fact that it's a shipper community, though--for all we know, she could turn out to be married or gay or have no chemistry at all with the Doctor. (Not that any of those are likely, of course. But.)

Yeah. I mean...fic? Buh? Reminds me of the slew of "missing scenes" (most of which should STAY LOST) posted on T&C bare hours after every episode airs. *wishes people would put some thought into things once in a while*
The existence of the community doesn't surprise me, but the fact that there's content besides discussion and speculation is throwing me for a loop.
I feel like at least some of the "rabid love" has to be people trying to stir the fan brouhaha for their own amusement, rather than actual love for the character.

*wonders if she should be glad she can't get into DW?*
From a fandom POV? Definitely. There are very nice, sane DW fans. And then there are the scary ones, who've had 40 years to perfect their wankery. Guess which ones make more noise.

The show itself is fun, though. :)
