I've been checking out ref. jobs, and there seems to be a 50/50 split between needing a second master's or not--although I think some of the ones that don't require it at the outset require you to get it within five years or something like that. Ack, I dunno. I have more than a year to think about it, though, since I don't think I'll be going until fall 2008.
