Oh-kay! I wanted scary, and I got it. Well, I got a couple moments of shock value when a vampire/vampire hunter jumped out of nowhere, which is a lower grade of scary than truly creepifying things that build and build over an episode, but hey, I'll take it.
Heh. Whenever they mentioned the cows' blood, I kept flashing back to Forever Knight, wherein there's another vampire who goes good, and drinks cow blood, even though it's vile. I liked Dean's mini-existential crisis at the end, where he's all, "What if I've killed good baddies? Ahhhh!" And him chainsawing the vampire's head off, and getting all bloodflecked, was right horrifying, and seemed like a good way of showing his lack of dealing with his father's death (see below for a bit more on that).
Sam's disgusted, half-laughing "No!" at the end, in response to Dean asking him to punch him, cracked me up with its implied "what the hell kind of crack you smokin'?" *snerk* I don't know these characters at all, but I get the feeling that that's quintessential Sam right there. Have I mentioned yet how much I love the sibling relationship between Sam and Dean? I like that it provides for moments like that. I don't think I've ever been in a fandom where siblings have been the main characters...I guess Firefly counts, but River and Simon weren't the sole focus. Anyway, this is different and cool to me.
On the other hand, Dean is making my head spin. The guy who clocks his brother for remarking that their dad's death has left a void, and who beat up a junkyard car last week, is talking about how he's "not handling it well" to some guy he barely knows? Eh? Forgive me if I'm mistaken, but that doesn't really fit into the quickie character sketch I've made of him after five episodes.
On a totally superficial note, Sam got his hair cut just a tiny bit, and it made him even more attractive. Forget this Dean!love thing; I'm all over Sam, man.
Random, general question I pose to the flist rather than actually looking up: Are the boys independently wealthy? Do they somehow get paid for their hunting? Basically, how are they eating and putting gas in the car?
