For what it's worth, I was surprised to learn that Goddard will let you do whatever kind of writing you want. I met an alum who wrote a murder mystery for her thesis. I'd always thought such things were forbidden, or at least looked down upon most sharply, but at least at Goddard, there's nothing to keep you from writing genre fiction.
