It may not be as dire as it sounds. They did Evelyn Smyth's farewell story a while back, and her next adventure with the sixth Doctor came out a month or two later. Just because they show us (so to speak) how the companion left doesn't mean Big Finish is done recording their adventures. :?)
And speaking of companion adventures...I'm finally going through the Gallifrey series now. If you haven't checked these out yet, I highly recommend them: Romana, Leela and K-9 all kick serious booty, and I think the combination is excellent. They're kind of political-spy thrillers, really cool stuff.
The whole "show companion's departure, then continue as before," completely messes with my linearly-oriented head, but I hope your prediction is correct.
Hmmmm, more audios...I could use something besides music to listen to at work....
