Doctoral programs, at least the ones I've looked at, all seem to provide excellent funding. Complete tuition reimbursement, stipends, teaching assistantships, fellowships...and this is for pretty much everyone working full-time toward the degree.

MA programs...not so much with the funding, alas. If they had it on the same scale, I'd be all over them. Now, I'm debating between an MA and the "well, I'll try to get into a doctoral program, and if I hate it, I can always drop out after I get the MA..." route.
