I know so little about it, despite umpteen years of dance, but it is fascinating.

What's a pas de deux?

It's a (generally challenging) dance for two, generally the male and female leads. There are several well-known ones; sometimes it's the best-knonw part of a particular ballet. Slightly more at Wikipedia.
