I think the chickpeas were the culprit; it basically tasted like sausage with an overlay of yuck.
Wow. Well, I'd blame the sausage. Whenever I try to do soups with meat (chicken), I always end up deciding they would've been better if i'd just left the chicken out. It's just like blobs of tasteless cardboard. Then again, I'm not too good at cooking chicken in the first place. Alas.
One thing I did discover, though: combine a can of condensed cream of potato, water, egg noodles, tuna, and seasoning, and the result is... kinda awesome? You wouldn't think tuna-potato noodle soup would be good, but it is.
I don't suppose you've got a recipe for a good spicy chicken soup on hand? I've been pondering an attempt at that for a while....
