"Humbug" was on Skiffy this afternoon, and I happened to catch the second half of it. I always forget how funny XF was--before it started sucking, anyway--in addition to how creepy. And the camera work was really quite good, at least in this episode; I loved the sequences in the funhouse and Scully's interview with the deformed curator. Also, Michael J. Anderson was in it! I love him! (And heh, he played a manager here too.)

One day, I need to sit down and rewatch the whole series.

(Oh, and read fic. Hmmm. Anyone got recs, or a favorite recs list/site?)

I've heard that there really will be another movie and it supposedly starts filming today. Have you heard anything about this?

I think that the funny XF episodes (along with some monster-of-the-week stories) have aged very well and are still as enjoyable as ever -- something I can't quite say about the convoluted mythology arc. And Darin Morgan's scripts were a real asset, even though he has got a rather peculiar sense of humour.

Speaking of fanfic: The Annex (http://www.annex-files.com/annex/) still exists, although it hasn't been updated for the last five years or so. I remember enjoying "No Greater Love" and "And Death Shall Have No Dominion" a lot, but I don't want to vouch for their actual quality. (I was sixteen or seventeen when I read them, and I also liked stuff like "The Magician" and "Katherine of Ireland", which you shouldn't even touch with a ten-foot pole unless you are into crack/bad fantasy rip-offs/cheesy bodice rippers.) Also former favourites of mine: the case files written by Syntax6 as well as "Oklahoma" and "Iolokus", both of which were pretty controversial, IIRC.

I think there are actually still a few chunks of the fifth season I haven't seen. I should remedy that.

I'm pretty sure S6 is my favorite, though. "How the Ghosts Stole Christmas," "Arcadia," "Dreamland," "Triangle"...so many good episodes, as long as you ignore that infuriating "children of starlight" thing in the middle.*

* I'm still bitter about that.

Last I heard, it was going to be a regular MOTW Mulder/Scully casefile. Yay for the lack of mytharc, but I totally wanted Doggett and Reyes to come back too...

OMG, that mytharc. It was okay up until...well, the "children of starlight" thing in S6 was really the end, but I guess it had been faltering for a year or two before that.

Oh, I remember spending days reading "The Magician"! I have no idea if I actually finished it or not; I can't seem to remember anything about it beyond the most basic premise. Never heard of "Katherine of Ireland," but I can imagine what it must be like.

I recently rediscovered Dasha K. and Plausible Deniability, both of whom have been cracking me up mightily in the past 24 hours.

Well, it was one of my Ur-Headdesks. See, I lived through Voyager's "Threshold" a couple years before that. I can't remember if you ever watched Voyager and if that would ring any bells for you, so here's the summary: Tom Paris takes a shuttle to Warp 10, aka "infinite speed" (headdesky all on its own), and during the course of that flight, he and Janeway "evolve to humanity's ultimate form"--which happens to be newts--land on some planet somewhere, and have newt babies.

I really, really wish I were making that up.

But the badness of that episode is mitigated by the fact that Voyager wasn't exactly falling from greatness, like XF was. If only the mytharc hadn't been so dumb...
