I've used TV as a motivator in the past, and it does work well, but I tend to want to think/say 'oh, just one more episode!' and then all is lost.
I seem to have no problem with the desire to watch one more after I've watched my alloted amount, but I do sometimes not finish what I've told myself I'll finish before watching another episode, so, yeah, it can sometimes backfire.
Though, if I were honest and really wanted to watch the TV stuff, I'd stop farting around looking at political blogs and just go watch an hour's TV and then get back to work. I'd probably waste less time that way...
That's what's happened to me--I've stopped reading a message board I often waste several hours a day on, and am instead wasting those hours on Bones.
