Aha. That would be why I've never seen why people like them. The only bread my mother or I have ever made was Irish soad bread, which does not need to be kneaded. I think the longest beating session I was ever in on was four minutes with the handheld for...a cake? Maybe?
A Kitchenaid mixer can also do a whole host of other stuff, from grinding meat to making pasta, so, yeah, it does a lot that you're not going to do on your own.
