icepixie: ([BSG] Laura Roslin will end you)

I should be reading Adam Bede right now, but...I'm not. There's only so much dialect I can take before I need a break. In that spirit, because for some reason I wound up watching Babylon 5 clips on YouTube, have a link: "There's always a boom tomorrow."

Ivanova cracks me up like no one else. (There's another one floating around out there where she mentions the staff's "open airlock policy" that also makes me laff. And then wish for a crossover where she and Laura Roslin meet up and airlock Cylons or something.)

Whee, Ivanova makes for an excellent break! Her "GOD SENT ME" speech and when she kinda did "put a bag over his head and [did] it for Babylon 5" are some of my faves.

Hmm, I should find an Ivanova icon.

Wheee, B5! Haven't seen the show in ages. Might try and rewatch it one of these days.

"I am right hand of vengeance and the boot that is going to kick your sorry ass all the way back to earth. I am death incarnate and the last living thing that you are every going to see. God sent me!"
~ Commander Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5

"I swear if we live through this somebody’s going to find their automatic shower preferences programmed for ice water!"
~ Commander Susan Ivanova, Babylon 5

I also have a handful of quotes from G'kar and Marcus. They really did have a few good lines. A personal favorite is the one about Swedish Meatballs.

Ivanova is and has always been my favorite B5 character. In fact, I loved her so much that when Claudia Christian left the show at the end of season 4, I had a hard time watching the rest of the show. It just wasn't the same without her.

One of my favorite Ivanova quote is, "Ivanova is always right. I will listen to Ivanova. I will not ignore Ivanova's recommendations. Ivanova is God. And, if this ever happens again, Ivanova will personally rip your lungs out!"

You're making me want to dig out my B5 DVD boxed sets and start watching. But, I need to catch up on BSG first.

And then wish for a crossover where she and Laura Roslin meet up and airlock Cylons or something.

That's gotta be fun! *lol*

Ivanova is the best! But you really need to see whole episodes. Snag 'em from Netflix. I personally find Michael O'Hare unfathomably dull in S1, but it's still better than S5. I especially love her when Marcus comes along and she just can't quite figure out what to do with him.

I definitely have my viewing cut out for me post-grad, since I need to watch all of B5, S1-4 of The West Wing, start Mad Men, and a bunch of other things people keep recommending...and that's before we even get to the stack of book recs...

The one with the open airlock policy always makes me laugh as well. I definitely enjoy the Babylon 5 quotes. :)

I knew there was some competition in general between Trek and B5, which I suppose is natural since they both appeal to something of a niche audience, but good grief. Why can't two shows set in space both be good? Obviously, these two were very, very different, so it's a tough comparison anyway.

I do not exaggerate at all when I say I got more spirituality out of a tv show written by an atheist than I ever did from going to church when I was a kid. There's a lot more to B5 than just space opera.

If you do start watching from the beginning, there's a great guide to B5 here. (http://www.midwinter.com/lurk/) When I first watched, it was in reruns on TNT leading up to S5 airing on that network (which swore it would air the show until the sprockets wore off the tape--guess them's some flimsy sprockets!), and I found it fascinating to look at the page for each episode after I watched it. Among other things, there are comments from JMS, and I remember reading about how he would try to put things in the first few episodes of each season to catch up new folks (to the general consternation of those who'd been there from the beginning). So he did try. It's tough, though, with a series that was planned to last five years before it ever filmed a single minute, to do that adequately, I think. It's really no wonder you had trouble figuring out what was going on.
