I've been meaning to read Proust for ages and ages. One day, I'll get around to it. Or at least part of it.
For Joyce, I'd start with A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, because many of the characters introduced there carry over into Ulysses. After the first few pages, it's also much, much less stream-of-consciousness. And my god, it is beautiful. The end of chapter four is perhaps the most beautiful passage in the English language.
