I just read somewhere that JMS apparently wanted to put the "opera" in "space opera," and that's why everything's kind of luridly colorful, and explains some of the more overly dramatic lines.

This show is going to be such fun to mock. :D (Assuming I ever have time to watch another episode, anyway...damn you, grad school!)
