I think what bothers me about the overquoting is that to me, it is so very much of its time (immediately post-WWI) that it's odd to see it in other contexts. Although it does fit perfectly in B5.
It's used in the miniseries of The Stand. I think it works there, too. But yeah, it's pretty much the universal post-Great War voice.
