Be that as it may, I maintain that even in 1996, that would've been over the top, and anyone who'd been paying the least bit of attention to the newsmedia for the past few centuries could've figured out what was going to happen. (I mean, yellow journalism, anyone? Fox News is just Hearst and Pulitzer with better national coverage.)
