Name your 20 absolutely favorite pairings (het/slash/canon/fanon) and ask people to see what trends they notice about your pairings. Try to pick different fandoms:

(These are perhaps in a rough order, but not really.)

Fraser/Thatcher (Due South)
Ivanova/Garibaldi (Babylon 5)
Maggie/Joel (Northern Exposure)
Trevor/Claire (original-flavor Cupid)
Castle/Beckett (Castle)
Eight/Charley (Doctor Who audios)
Julian/Jadzia (DS9)
Mulder/Scully (X-Files)
Roslin/Adama (BSG)
John/Elizabeth (Atlantis)
Sam/Jack (SG-1)
Daniel/Janet (SG-1)
John/Aeryn (Farscape)
Julia/Alonzo (Earth 2)
Tracy/Vachon (Forever Knight)
Maddie/David (Moonlighting)
Karen/Davis (Corner Gas)
Jules/Rebecca (Secret Adventures of Jules Verne)
Darien/Claire (The Invisible Man)
Olive/Alfredo (Pushing Daisies)

I can tell you a few things right now:
- All of them are het (I r Teh Boring)
- More than half of them are unrequited (I r Teh Unlucky)
- Despite this, half are THE canon pairing (or one of the pairings) for the show (I r Teh Conventional)
- On the other hand, several of them are a mostly-unloved het pairing containing one partner of an extremely popular slash pairing (I r Teh Contrary)
- A couple of them have practically no basis in canon (I r Teh Grasping)

Teaching
At the moment, the thought of teaching is still a bit terrifying, but I assume that will go away with time. My inner megalomaniac is looking forward to running the show next year. I think, though, that that will probably be it; despite it being something of the family profession on my dad's side (both grandparents, my dad, two uncles, and now a cousin are/were teachers at levels ranging from elementary to university), I don't feel a burning desire to go on to a PhD program, and the thought of teaching anything but college makes me want to run screaming into the night.

Poetry
Heh, I'm not surprised this is a keyword. As far as criticism goes, I find poetry the easiest genre to write about. I like interpreting on the level of individual word choice or phrase usage, and it's harder--but, as I think I've proved by now, because I'm bullheaded like that, not impossible--to do that with prose. Plus, I just like reading poetry, especially when the poet gets something exactly right through metaphor, simile, or other poetic device, and it's more accurate than the same description in prose. I strive for that in my own poetry.

Photography
I haven't been doing much of that lately, have I? I guess there's only so many flower pictures you can take before it gets stale. I got into photography when I was doing my year abroad, and thought, "Hmmm. How many pictures are there of Big Ben/the Eiffel Tower/[insert landmark here]? What can I do that will make mine worth looking at?" And thus came experiments with composition, lighting, aperture, shutter speed, etc. And then I for some reason got really into macro shots of flowers, as well as landscapes and buildings. Photography appeals to me in some of the same ways writing, and particularly writing fanfic, does; it's an opportunity to play with perception by focusing on the same thing from different angles, presenting it in a different light, and creating one's own reality, though within the limits created by what pieces exist to play with. (I think this may go some ways toward explaining why I always end up writing scenes that contain seemingly-random POV shifts among characters and not even noticing I've done it until I go back and revise.)

Dancing
I miss ballroom dancing. I like the combination of perfecting a skill (a technique, a step, a series of steps), moving on to the next skill once one is perfected (or at least learned, sort of), and making crap up while still adhering to a style of dance. The music is good, too. I like doing things to music. Swing or Jive or Quickstep are the most entertaining forms of exercise I can think of for all those reasons. Of course, dancing can suck mightily if your partner is a tool (2003 Nationals, I'm looking at you), but if the partner is a person you enjoy being around, it can be more fun than dancing by yourself, because there's someone to laugh with you when one of you screws up, and to be relieved/cheerful with when you do something right.

Steampunk
I think I might present myself as more a steampunk fan than I actually am. Really I just like The Secret Adventures of Jules Verne. Other examples of the genre are rather hit-or-miss. To be honest, I might like the look more than the fiction. I would totally wear steampunk jewelry from Etsy and outfit my apartment in steampunky items if most of it weren't so expensive.
