I'm sorry that you have to deviate from your original plan - I know how much you agonized over the class reading list and how much you obviously work on lessons plans, etc.

Ah, thank you. :) I haven't actually done any planning for this course yet; just written the big paper assignments (which, for the most part, don't have a lot to do with the readings) and made the schedule. So I'm not out much work at all. It was mostly just that I really like The Sparrow; I think the kids would've gotten a lot out of it, and it seems to epitomize what I think of when I think of "sci-fi." But it's just too long, alas.

But I LOVE The Forever War.

I'm pretty sure I picked up my copy on your recomendation, so thanks!

And it's a book that your freshmen should be able to work through it with no problems. Or maybe I'm overestimating your freshmen.

No, I think you're about right. The ones I have now are pretty bright, and probably the ones I'll have next semester will be similar. The book seems to be right at their level.

Either way it's a good book and I'm sure you'll come up with a great lesson plan to go along with it.
