Peter is talking to Ellie's father near the end of the movie, and after saying he loves Ellie, starts detailing her faults in an "I love her despite all this" sort of way. One of them is that Ellie's father spoiled her, and should've seen that she needed "to be socked every day whether she deserves it or not," the implication being that he will do that once they're married.
